2007 yılında majör bir Amerikan Hastanesinin "Residency Selection Committee" Toplantı kulislerinden ve eğitimlerinden alıntıdır. Branşı ve Hastaneyi açık etmiyorum. Adayların kapalı kapılar ardında nasıl değerlendirildiği bunun dışarı açıklanan ile ne kadar paralellik gösterdiği, bazı kriterlerin nasıl tespit edildiği gibi temel kavramların anlaşılması açısından önemli bir belgedir. Üzerinde düşünülmesi gerekir. Aşağıdaki eğitim asistanları seçecek kurula verilmektedir, ve bu kişiler hem ilk etapta hem görüşmeler sonrasında sürekli olarak kendilerine anlatılan bu kriterlere göre seçim yapmaya zorlanırlar. İşin en sonunda da program direktörü son kararı verir.

Bu notlar, 2007 yılında 6 kişilik kadroya 800+ başvuru alan bir program seçme komitesine aitir. Yorum yapılırken ve düşünülürken kompetisyon durumunun da dikkate alınması gerekir. Şayet bazı kriterler deyim yerindeyse "şımarıklıktan" yerleştirilmekte, aynı şekilde ihtiyaçtan da bazıları kaldırılmaktadır.

Personal Statement
Generally arrives before other materials
Does candidate have clear interest in our specialty?
Does candidate explain why our program is a good fit for their residency training needs?
Medical School Transcripts
Often vague in candidates training
Look for multiple attempts in courses
High Pass/Commendation always a plus
USMLE/COMLEX transcripts
Ideal candidates will have one attempt per exam
Note timing between exams

Letters of recommendation (LOR)
Does candidate have LOR from our specialty experience?
Do LOR clearly recommend applicant to the practice of our specialty?
Has the author of LOR worked with this applicant?
Is work/experience described in LOR similar to work done here at CCF?
Look for key words like “highly recommend”, “wish he/she would stay here and work with us”.
Research
Ideal candidates will have some type of research
Is this research a subject that will benefit or be of interest to the residency/department?
Will CCF provide enough research opportunities for this candidate?

Work/volunteer/previous residency experience
Does experience explain any lapses between medical school, exams, applying for residency?
Did candidate maintain interest in our specialty while gaining experience in these areas?
Will experience enrich candidates residency training?
ECFMG certification
No need to worry about ECFMG status, although applicants without ECFMG certification are not eligible to start residency until certified.
IMG applicants are not eligible for ECFMG certification and ultimately visa status without ECFMG certification
Certification is not achieved until applicants pass step 1 & 2 (both clinical skills & clinical knowledge parts of step 2) of USMLE examination.

International medical graduates
Graduate of accredited/approved medical school
A valid E.C.F.M.G. Certificate
U.S.M.L.E. Scores for part 1 & 2
~ XX minimum with U.S. Experience
~ XY minimum with NO US experience
Pass clinical skills exam part III (if applicable)
Pass all qualifying examinations on first attempt
No gaps in training or practice.
Have recent clinical experience, preferably in the U.S.
At least 2 strong letters of recommendation from xxx specialty faculty with whom the applicant has worked clinically
