PLEASE TAKE THIS BRIEF SURVEY ON A POTENTIAL NEW PROGRAM FOR ECFMG-CERTIFIED PHYSICIANS

The Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) is exploring the possibility of offering a new membership association for ECFMG-certified individuals that would, for a fee, provide exclusive access to new resources and members-only benefits. At this time, we would like your assistance in gauging interest in this service.

Resources offered through this association would focus on post-ECFMG Certification needs of international medical graduates (IMGs), including educational resources on visas, waivers, entry into U.S. graduate medical education (GME), and non-clinical career options. Other potential services offered by this membership association could include networking and mentoring opportunities, discounts on ECFMG and FAIMER services, and personal benefits.

Recognizing that the needs of IMGs do not end with receipt of their Standard ECFMG Certificate, ECFMG believes there may be a need for such an association. For certified IMGs who are successful in obtaining a GME position, there are the personal and professional challenges of relocating to the United States and acquainting with the U.S. system of GME. For those who must maintain an appropriate visa status to participate in U.S. GME, immigration issues are a constant throughout their training years and beyond. Medical licensure, fellowship opportunities, and specialty certification are complex issues that IMGs must navigate during or after their training. For certified IMGs who are not successful in obtaining a U.S. training position or who do not seek one, access to information on their career options in the United States and elsewhere is critical.

Please share your thoughts on this proposed membership association by taking this brief survey, which you can access at www.surveymonkey.com/s/DKFR5ZR . The survey will be open until Friday, May 27, 2011.

We thank you in advance for helping us to develop new services that meet the needs of IMGs.
